Rescue
Getting vulnerable dogs and cats off the street and into immediate safety.
Kavadarci · North Macedonia
An independent rescue effort run by a local couple, giving homeless, injured and disabled dogs and cats the care, safety and dignity they deserve.
Hope starts with one life.RESCUE · RECOVER · LOVE01 · The mission
On the streets of Kavadarci, a private family rescue initiative helps animals who have nowhere else to turn. The couple arranges food, shelter, veterinary treatment and—when possible—a loving home.
Special attention goes to disabled dogs who need long-term care, mobility aids and patient people who refuse to give up on them.

Without Lina’s intervention, Lisa would have been euthanised. The municipal shelter did not have the facilities to accommodate and care for a disabled dog.
Lisa spent six weeks in a veterinary clinic receiving treatment for her wounds. She now lives safely in Lina’s care while a permanent home is sought for her.

02 · Care at Lina
Dogs with complex disabilities live together in a dedicated indoor room at the boarding facility. With the right treatment, equipment and daily support, many can live joyful, loving lives.
Every day the family helps them into their wheelchairs and provides the intimate physical care each animal needs. Depending on the dog, this may include expressing the bladder, assisting with bowel movements, changing nappies and caring for wounds.
A monthly contribution helps cover basic boarding and daily care, but it does not meet every expense. Wheelchairs, nappies and other incontinence supplies, wound-care products, electricity and the frequent washing of blankets all create substantial additional costs.
Dolly’s rescuer pays part of her care personally, but the amount is too great for one person to carry month after month. Sponsors can help share that responsibility. This care may be needed not for weeks or months, but for years.
Dogs without disabilities also live in a safe, dedicated area in the garden. This group includes dogs with leishmaniasis or heartworm, as well as other rescued dogs who need shelter and daily care. These dogs currently have no sponsors.
Freddie has made a remarkable recovery. He still needs regular blood tests so his health can be monitored. A dedicated sponsor for these tests would help ensure that changes are noticed and treated in time.
Under North Macedonia’s 2026 Annual Order for Animal Health, a stray dog that tests positive for leishmaniasis cannot be released back onto the street. If the dog is captured and enters the municipal shelter system, it must be euthanised immediately. This is an exceptionally strict distinction: a dog with an owner may still receive treatment under veterinary supervision, but a positive stray entering the municipal shelter system does not have that option.
By giving these dogs a protected place to live and receive appropriate care, the family offers them a chance they might otherwise never receive.
